Coppack five-for sets up Surrey rout of Warwickshire

Only one Bears batter manages double-figures as hosts wrap up bonus point win in short order Surrey 59 for 0 (King 41*) beat Warwickshire 55 (Coppack 5-22, Monaghan 3-10) by ten wickets Kate Coppack's career-best 5-22 led the rout as Surrey skittled Warwickshire for 55 in their "must win" Metro Bank One Day Cup game at the Kia Oval. Coppack, already signed from Essex ready for 2027, but currently on loan, proved unplayable on a grassy surface which appeared dry underneath, ripping through the heart of the visitors' top order. Alice Monaghan weighed in with 3 for 10 while former South African skipper Sune Luus took 2 for 19. Surrey chased down the meagre target in only 62 balls without losing a wicket, Rachel King (41 from 35) finishing the match with her second six, while Monaghan was unbeaten on 16. Surrey picked up a bonus point for the victory which could yet prove crucial in their chase for final the eliminator spot. Coppack's heroics began in the opening over where Meg Austin was caught behind for a duck. Even so, no one expected the carnage that followed. Luus pinned Amu Surenkumar lbw attempting to sweep, before Coppack took centre stage again with two wickets in one over. Brooke Halliday was deceived by one which appeared to stick in the pitch and took the leading edge before ballooning back to Coppack and four balls later Abi Freeborn was sent on her way after thick edging a ball to King in the gully. In-form Katie George resisted briefly playing one wristy shot for four, but she too was undone by a beauty from Coppack which went between bat and pad and scattered the stumps. The five-for was completed shortly afterwards when Nat Wraith was adjudged caught behind from a ball which appeared to strike the batter's helmet. By that stage Charis Pavely had also gone without troubling the scorers and even though Coppack finally made way, the bowling change brought no relief as Monaghan spreadeagled Em Arlott's stumps, making her the fourth Bears' batter to depart for a duck. Mary Taylor also fell to Monaghan given out caught off the glove and it needed the last pair to drag Warwickshire beyond 50.
